Nick Dorian, Ph.D. is a pollinator ecologist, consultant, and speaker. A National Science Foundation and Switzer Foundation-supported scientist, Nick studies the ecology and conservation of insect pollinators. He has developed frameworks to advance urban conservation, and methods to study wild bees throughout their life cycles, including co-authoring a popular field guide to bee identification. Currently, Nick is a research scientist at the Chicago Botanic Garden where he evaluates native plants and garden designs for urban conservation potential. Nick received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Biology at Tufts University.
As a consultant, Nick brings science-backed insights to improve the conservation outcomes of design projects. He works with landscape architects, urban planners, and land managers to envision green space with value for both people and nature, such as the award-winning Somerville Pollinator Action Plan.
Nick is also a highly sought-after storyteller who translates science to audiences nationwide. His enthusiasm for the natural world captivates audiences of all ages whether during his beloved Pollinator Safaris or educational lectures such as his Tedx Talk “We’re Saving the Wrong Bees.” Nick also teaches a week-long course at Eagle Hill Institute on wild bees.
